Overnight Mason Jar Oatmeal
This is a huge hit in our house. We prep a load of these at the beginning of the week and add the wet ingredients the night before for a quick, easy and very healthy breakfast. Its great for those on the run or those of you who have a teen that has a hard time getting going in the morning. Studies show time and time again that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that kids learn better when they’ve eaten a healthy breakfast. This recipe was designed to be eaten cold but if you are adverse to cold oatmeal you can heat it up for a quick beat in the microwave to take the edge off.
Things you need
Mason jars with lids.
We have plastic reusable spin on lids but you can use the seals and rings if need be.
1 cup Large Flake oats - We use One Degree Sprouted organic gluten free oats
2 heaping tsp Hemp Hearts
1 heaping tsp Chia Seeds
1/4-1/2 tsp Cocao Powder
2 tsp Cocao Nibs
1 Tblsp Honey or Maple Syrup
1/4 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
Milk - We use Coconut Milk, Whatever your preference.
Add all dry ingredients to the jar. Make a bit of a well and pour in your vanilla and honey. I like to wait for it to sink in a bit before I add the milk. Add Milk of choice a bit at a time, stir in until you have the consisitency that you prefer. Remember that the chia seeds and oatmeal do absorb some of the liquid so a bit runnier is ok. If its still dry in the morning you can always add a bit more milk before you eat it. Stir until everything is well mixed, don’t forget to make sure that everything is off of the bottom as well. Put in refrigerator over night and its ready for breakfast the next day. You can add some of your favourite toppings prior to eating if so desired, such as fresh fruit or nuts and seeds. Make it your own!!
Enjoy!
